This year, we are going to schedule some work parties and encourage able-bodied individuals for power washing, repairs, taking down dead trees, moving rocks on the east line to make it safer, costing out things like a new shed (paid for by selling the silver bullet), possibly new buoys, constructing shelves in the existing shed, building a lockable outside games box, fixing gates, rebuilding the bocce court, sprucing up the main sign, etc.—you get the idea.
We need people to donate tools and hardware, rakes, etc. if you have them and we’ll buy what else we need. The list is long but many hands makes light work. If members want to make this even more pleasant, bring refreshments to feed the workers..
Earth Day is our standard cleanup day - raking leaves and picking up sticks, cleaning junk out from under the shed, and picking up trash or glass along the shore. We might have a special brigade to dig out the toilet that has been stuck in the sand for ages. Ideally, the green thumbs in the membership will volunteer to plant some perennials along the park edges and annuals under the main sign. Let’s make the park pretty!
As it gets closer to May, effort will shift to the boat ramp and rack and we’ll be redoing the signage to make it warm and welcoming as well as alert members to new state regulations. We will try and address the movement of the small rocks near the east side of the boat ramp too.
The first work party is: Saturday, Mar 22nd to Monday, March-24th, 9-12AM. Anticipate that the first day will start with planning and assigning tasks (individual or teams), assembling tools and equipment needed, deploying crews on low hanging fruit. and assessing strategies like how to maximize storage, selling the trailer, etc.
Eventually, we hope to have coverage the better part of the days and early evenings but members will decide and possibly sign up for shifts so the process is organized.
The second will be in the days leading up to Earth Day, April 21-24th and including the weekend of April 26th & 27th. The park and marsh cleanups are on Earth Day, April 26th, weather permitting.
The last will be Friday, May 16th to Monday, May 18th when we will modify the boat rack to fit more watercraft and re-stencil the rack.
Dan Karten, President, and Nick Mulvihill, Chair of the Property Committee, will be leading the charge with Beth Mitchell keeping everyone on schedule. It will be fun and rewarding to see the changes.
