DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED.
LEAF PICK UP WILL BE FRIDAY, APRIL 25TH AT 10AM. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.
WE DO NOT HAVE A PLAN B FOR WRACK REMOVAL YET.
WE WILL TRY OUR BEST TO RESCHEDULE KATE PISANO OF THE WARREN LAND TRUST FOR HER PRIMER ON MARSH RESTORATION IN MAY.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING~
It’s Earth Day weekend in Warren. On this day, volunteers will be enlisted to pitch in at the marsh or the park for a good spring cleanup! Wrack has, once again, built up along the road to the beach and then some, due to all the wind and wave action. Anyone planning to help remove it should bring a pitchfork, metal rake and gloves and don’t forget your rubber boots!
We hope there are members who will walk the shoreline looking for errant glass, which we will collect and display over the summer as an educational awareness exercise. Leather or heavy duty gloves are highly recommended..
This year, Kate Pisano, Executive Director of the Warren Land Trust (WLT) will be onsite. We are discussing a formal partnership to take on marsh restoration together long-term, as the WLT owns parcels on either side of LPIA’s. Kate will talk for 15-20 minutes about restoration projects the WLT has done to tackle invasive species and breathe new life into saltmarshes.
This event is weather-dependent; however, we expect the town will be picking up waste again for us, so we hope to carry on. If the tide is too high preceding the wrack removal, and the wrack too heavy, then we will do the best we can and stop.
